Project for the artistic creation of radio theater in a prison context
Uma iniciativa Terceira Pessoa Associação e Estabelecimento Prisional da Guarda, com o apoio da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian “La Caixa” através da iniciativa PARTIS & Art for Change.

SYNOPSIS

RadioATIVIDADE is a radio drama project developed in Guarda prison, which includes various initiatives with the inmate population, namely the co-creation of plays in radio format – broadcast on Rádio Antena 2 in July and August (2023) and in August and September (2024) – and the creation of an internal radio station run by the project participants themselves.

OnJune 18, the preview of the radio drama episodes will take place in an (internal) presentation to the prison community.

FRAMEWORK

The RadioATIVIDADE project began in September 2022 and will run for three years. It includes various initiatives with the inmate population (female and male) of the Guarda Prison Establishment (EPG), which allow and enhance the experimentation of artistic languages with an approach to different textual genres, performance and contact with audiovisual tools for artistic expression.

Based on a collaborative dialog approach, the artistic team made up of a playwright, poet, essayist and artists from different disciplines has co-constructed radio plays with the prison community, based on texts that evoke the prison system itself, written by Regina Guimarães and Serge Sagnail.

These pieces can be broadcast internally at Guarda Prison, on regional and national radio stations and in digital format (e.g. online podcast).
In 2023, in July and August, as a result of this artistic-community work, Antena 2 broadcast a cycle of 8 radio pieces, all performed and recorded at EPG (available online HERE).

In 2024, during the months of August and September, 8 more radio plays will be broadcast.

This project has proved to be transformative on several levels, allowing the inmate community at Guarda Prison to enjoy, participate in and contribute to artistic and cultural creation, regardless of their social situation. Very important contributions to the acquisition of new tools for personal and social development, and to stimulating the creative potential of each inmate.
