LUZ NEGRA is a performance by Ana Gil and Nuno Leão created in the context of the multidisciplinary project “Rastro, Margem, Clarão”, in which a collective of creators in the performing arts, visual arts and essayists set out to think about the writing of Rui Nunes (b. 1945) in its heterogeneities, thematic nodes and concerns, in a bold and heuristically transdisciplinary approach.
to look for the place that is elusive, to get used to the continual escape from the world,
to allow myself the place where the word has been erased,
to rest in it like someone who finds serenity in desolation,
tolose, tolose more and more until theunspeakable,
not to speak, not to write, to finally start again:
theroad is waiting for a name.
(Rui Nunes, in O Choro é um Lugar Incerto)

This author’s work is full of elements that take writing as a performative act: the pages are filled with gaps, white, highlighted in black, erasures, truncated sentences. In this way, writing seems to summon up less of a reading and more of a vision, approaching what is a-verbal in the modes of coexistence between different subjects (what Jacques Rancière calls “sharing of the sensible”), its semiotic or communicational surplus, as happens with our gestures, our breathing, the movements of our body. So it’s a whole register that is enshrined in performativity, in the violence and brilliance of the body in act (the body that is truly realized for the duration of the performance).
It is based on these elements that Ana Gil and Nuno Leão – artistic directors of Terceira Pessoa – create and present a performance in which the body tries to construct itself as a place and in which space itself becomes a body under construction. What is this place where we hesitate between perfection and disaster?
